party, party

Brinley turned 4 and Wrennyn got dedicated to The Lord and we figured with our large families that it would be easiest on everyone if we combine the two celebrations. Initially my brain went into a party-planning frenzy like it usually does. Then, reality hit. Our budget has become very tight this past year and we needed to be smarter about our spending (we as in Andy told my I spend too much money - haha). The planning came to be nearly non-existant. I even went so far as to group text our invites! THE HORROR! Now, you, hush you know you have been tempted to do it, too! And what a RELIEF it was!!! Ok, ok I felt really guilty about the text, but to be honest it was a joy to sit back and really just do minimal prep work for the party. Let me share that besides the food and drinks we only spent $35 on decor. Thankfully my powerful fabric hoarding skills came through in the clutch and I dug out some shades of blue and greys to make a small banner. But truthfully there was nothing fancy about it. No fancy dishes (we used odds and ends paperwares) No fancy food (Izze, rootbeer, and veggie and sandwich platters from Costco) No fancy party bags (painted elephants and pushpop suckers) And a whoppin' 3 balloons!

The thing is these details that the party lacked had nothing to do with anything. The day was full of love, support, and happiness - as it should be. I got to enjoy every moment and we all got to be together just the same as if I had spent weeks creating the decor. I am not saying every party will be like this, but it really felt great to let go and not compete with pinterest for once! My only regret is not sending proper invites out of respect for our family who attended - it really is the cordial thing to do! Truthfully party planning has gotten way out of hand in my book. Every part feels like a secret competition with non-existant competitors. When at the end of the day, it should be about the people and the time spent together. I wish we could let go of some of these crazes that are taking over our lives. I loved our tacky costco dinosaur cake FYI!!!!!!!

In other news, Brinley was a blast opening his gifts! He really doesn't ask for much so it was fun to see him showered with fun toys. Also, he had the BEST expression when he got the bike that my mom and dad gave him, it was the cutest! Wrennyn also received some cute books and beautiful sentimental items that were engraved! I have such a  loving family and I am very blessed!
